[Wiskidsdv] Kids group

We have not started in person groups yet as well. Jennie does a group on zoom. I was thinking of starting up our kid’s group on zoom again in September for a limited number of outside client children. However, school in our district is all virtual right now, so I am not sure if they will want any more screen time. I have meet with 1 family at a time and we do projects staying 6 feet apart and wearing masks.

Karen, we are also gearing up to help kids with virtual schooling. You mentioned plastic barriers. Where are you getting those from? I am looking for some to put on small desk like tables.

Thanks,
Jennifer

Hi Jodi,
We have closed off our Kids’ Space and are not holding any Kids’ Groups in there after getting expert advice that it would be too hard to keep everything properly sanitized. We are also not having our volunteers come in, which is really sad. We did have a cleaning company come in at the beginning of the pandemic to deep clean and sanitize the Shelter and Kids’ Space, and there are cleaning protocols and other measures in place to maintain sanitation in Shelter. We are doing some activities in our Shelter dining room or outside with small groups of kids and trying to maintain social distancing and wearing masks during those activities, which is easier said than done especially with the younger children. We do daily temperature checks and screening questions. We have hand sanitizer readily available and require booties to be worn over shoes. We keep families together since they are sharing the same bedrooms. We have also created individual project packets for kids, so they are not sharing any supplies. We have very limited number of plastic toys in the Shelter play area and those get put in a “toys to be cleaned bin” once they have been played with. All the toys get sanitized in the dishwasher on overnight shifts. We are having our Back to School Carnival this Friday, but it will be different this year with all the safety precautions. We don’t have plastic barriers in Shelter yet, but we have put some up in our open office spaces between cubicles. Now we are gearing up to support families around virtual learning when school starts in the Fall. Let me know if you have any questions. I’m interested in hearing how others are handling all of this. It’s been hard but we’re doing the best we can. I hope everyone is hanging in there!
Thanks,
Karen

We have not had any in person outreach (non shelter) kids groups other than giving families activities to do together since the start of the pandemic.

I am wondering how others are handing kids groups for kids 11 and under.

Where are you holding them? What is the type of space?
What protocol is in place to keep everyone safe?
Are there limits on how many can attend?
What does spacing look like?
Are there plastic barriers?
Are you keeping families together?
How are you maintaining distance and keeping masks on kids?
Are you limiting the time of group?
How are you making sure people, toys and supplies are appropriately sanitized during and after?
